Hi There All:
I was diagnosed with Adenoid Cystic Carcinoma last October, had a total parodidectomy and underwent seven weeks of IMRT radiation therapy.
During surgery, my entire nerve on the right side of my face was removed and replaced with one from my leg, which, in turn, lead to the right side of my face being frozen, my right eye unable to close automatically, my mouth severly twisted to the left, and an incision from my right ear to just under my neck.
Radiation ended this past March, and I am pleased to announce that the new nerve is begining to regenerate, though I still have some ways to go, and may still nee some form of reconstructive surgery. In addition a third of the right side of my face has a very distinct radiation sunburn, and my right ear (whic turned literally black during therapy), is lightening in color.
I will have a PET scan in July to determine if the cancer has been eliminated or has metastasized (fortunately, no mets. were found before surgery).
Anyway, I would love to write to members of this forum, make friends, and (hopefully) be as supportive as possible.
