Betsy Wilson Speaks about Let's Face It at UM

Betsy Wilson, Director of Let's Face It, is an early childhood educator with a Masters Degree as an early childhood educator. Her thesis was titled The Child In the Health Care Setting. She has been a Child Life Specialist in hospitals in Rhode Island, Maine, Florida, and Missouri. She is the parent of an adult born with craniosynostosis. Betsy lost part of her face and jaw to cancer in 1972. She brought the Let's Face It support network to the United States from England in 1987, and has ever since served as an advocate for persons with facial differences. Here, Betsy speaks at the University of Michigan School of Dentistry about the origins of Let's Face It.

It has been an honor to work with Betsy on this project, and was a great joy to meet her in person. Betsy has been an angel and inspiration in my life, as she has been for so many others.

Betsy is an incredible inspiration for patient advocates and well, anyone with a disability, or anyone who wants to accomplish something that may seem difficult or at times impossible! The several times I have spoken with her I have walked away from the conversation with a renewed commitment to helping others and continuing to fight for my dreams.
I hope Betsy realizes that she has had a profound impact on those around her, not only in the facial differences community, but everywhere.
